And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.-Psalm 90:17
With the daily cycle of work that never ends—the laundry that continually mounts up as soon as one load is washed and folded, the dishes added to the sink even as the dishwasher is running, the cleaning that is undone as soon as I’ve done it—it’s relieving to pray, “Lord, establish the work of my hands. Let your beauty, the beauty evident in Creation, abound in my home.”
And the Creator, who looked at His own work and announced that it was good, who established the earth’s foundations, that God can shed His strength and beauty upon all that I do and establish my feeble efforts. Those efforts at beauty and calm and restoration, those goals that I have for my home and my family, the God of grace can establish not only my work, but He can establish me in my work.
