Journeys of Faithfulness Review

 Journeys of Faithfulness review

Among the many fabulous books that you’ll find at Apologia, I was recently given the opportunity to review Journeys of Faithfulness by Sarah Clarkson. Recommended for girls ages 12 and up, Journeys of Faithfulness was written to be a devotional journey shared by mothers and daughters. The author Sarah Clarkson uses engaging fiction, relevant person testimony, and pointed Bible study questions to help women and young girls connect with the faith and faithfulness of the women in the Bible.

Apologia Explore the feelings of loss and loneliness and the powerful love of Christ as you study the life of Mary, sister of Martha and Lazarus; join Mary, the mother of Jesus, on a faith journey that keeps her depending on God in the midst of ever-changing circumstances; study the testimonies of Ruth and Esther as God rewards their sacrifices of faith.

The blend of fiction and non-fiction, Bible study and journaling, are extremely appealing tools for women and specifically for young girls. And the stories of these women create great conversation starters to examine the faith and the fears of your daughter or young friend.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading through this entire book. Though I am particularly picky when it comes to fiction, and even more so when it comes to Biblical fiction, I found Sarah’s work to be beautifully written and tastefully respectful of the Biblical narratives. Her personal testimonies within each segment wove the narratives and personal application together seamlessly and helped to identify where our lives and struggles are not much different from these women of the past.

My daughter is too young to share in this journey just yet, but I could definitely see this being a special “tea time” study together. This is not a deep study on theology or doctrine but rather an opportunity for a mother and daughter to discuss personal struggles and fears and bond in the journey. I would recommend this book on a case by case basis, depending on what a mother or youth worker is hoping to accomplish. Overall, the book is delightful, light, and easy to get through: a work of art.
