Our School Journal-Entry 12

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

In the kitchen, I made fresh salsa from peppers in our own garden, tried a recipe for Ratatouille using produce for our friends’ gardens, and ate the best home-made pickles in the world (I’ve GOT to try the recipe for those very soon). I’ve also found a number of awesome recipes from Pinterest.

I’ve also got my first Usborne show scheduled! I’m actually trying an eParty concept where we have all the fun of a home party on my party blog site, complete with doorprizes and activities. So, I’ve been extremely busy getting that ready to go, working on my Usborne blog, plus homeschooling, plus keeping up with my other blogs, plus working on my other writing projects, plus maintaining the other daily responsibilities. I’m not sure what all that equals, other than a lot of plates spinning and a very busy schedule.

In our homeschool this week…

I was actually a little skeptical headed into this week. Our art study covered Van Gogh’s “Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear.” But we had a lot of fun studying the broader concept of self-portraits and faces. We did our funny face project, completed a page in our Spot the Differences book with the Mona Lisa painting, and then did the Van Gogh coloring page.

My favorite thing this week…

We’ve been clipping along in our Phonics/Math lessons as well. It’s been fun to see his reading skills progress to the point where he understands what he is reading. A couple of times this week he read a sentence and then just bursting out laughing at what it said. Watching him enjoy his new skills was so exciting.

Links to share…

I’ve read a couple of really great posts this week and thought I’d share the links. One is on Stepping Out of the Grade-level Box and the other is on Creating a Homeschool Schedule. Need a little humor? My new friend at StorybookScience.com has a hilarious story about her boys’ “Fred the Dead Pet Frog” plus some great posts on autism. Enjoy!
