Our School Journal–Entry 9

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

Vacation Bible School. Twelve 3-4 year olds. Three hours a day. Need I say more?

But I will say more. We had a great week–great attendance and very generous giving toward our missions project.

It’s also been a very enlightening week. Believe it or not, working with that many little ones is way out of my comfort zone. And I’ve learned a few things–particularly, that God does not want to use merely our talents. We often hear that we ought to give our talents to the Lord, but very rarely do we hear that God wants us to be willing to serve in our weaknesses as well.

Another result of this week has been a deep sense of gratitude that I get to stay home with my children. This month marks one year since I was able to quit work and stay home. As I dropped my two year old off at the church nursery each morning before VBS and (toward the end of the week) listened to her sob as I left, as I worked through her clinginess and exhaustion in the afternoons, many memories came flooding back. I remembered back to those days of balancing work and home life. I’m extremely thankful that today is the last day she has to go to nursery, that next week we can pick up our routine once more. But I’m also that much more sympathetic to the women who are attempting to balance those two spheres of life: career and home. It’s not an easy balance–physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

In our homeschool this week…

We took the week off for VBS activities, much to my son’s dismay. But, I still have to post our activities from the week before! On Monday and Tuesday I’ll be posting the updates on our Van Gogh bedrooms that we painted and our water party. Both were so much fun, and I can’t wait to share the results with you. So stick around.
