Our School Journal

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

I found a great site for teaching music appreciation, lots of free podcasts, activity sheets and more. My other accomplishment: I kept up with the laundry this week! We also have adopted a “five minute cleaning frenzy.” We clean as fast as we can, trying to beat the timer. The kids think we’re playing a game, and I get some great little helpers. Love it!

In our homeschool this week…

We covered two letters this week–“S” and “G.”  We had been covering a letter a week; but my son knows all the letters on our consonant chart, so the weekly lessons go much faster. I’m not really teaching sounds anymore as much as I’m teaching how to blend the sounds with a vowel and then make simple words. Thus, I’ve picked up the pace: two letters this week, one next week, two letters the week after, etc. until I see how he does with the new pace. Also, wrote the number 12, counted to 100, learned what makes plants grow, and practiced rhymes.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We participated in Resurrection 5K with our church, pulling the kids along in a wagon. What a work-out! But it was enjoyable time as a family and with friends. I’m also really excited about starting some Easter traditions. I wrote about a few of those in my Homekeepers blog.

My favorite thing this week was…

Seeing the look on my son’s face when he read the word “God.”

What’s working/not working for us…

We love Letter of the Week activities. My son’s favorite are the letter hunts. And my daughter loves the puzzles.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

Seriously contemplating year round school. Anyone up on the pros and cons of that decision?
